Founded by Emile Puiforcat, his brother and uncle J. B. Fuchs in 1820. In 1857, Emile Puiforcat and his uncle registered a feature that is still known today - a penknife between the letters EP. In 1892, Emil's granddaughter married Louis Victor Tabouret, who changed his name to Tabouret-Puiforcat in 1915. In 1927, his son Jean (1897-1945) took over the company. He fundamentally changed the styling of the products, henceforth characterized by simplified, geometrized lines inspired by art déco. Jean Puiforcet was a skilled sculptor and designer, including co-founding the Union des Artistes Modernes. He used the traits of the company's founder. He is considered the greatest French goldsmith of the art déco style. He died in 1945.
