The sculpture, depicting a sheep, was made of aluminum and stone. The combination of these two materials has become characteristic of Bronislaw Chromy's sculptural work. This is because the artist often used stones with natural shapes, which became the inspiration for the sculptural form. Chromy also used the motif of sheep in many of his other works, such as the sheep in the square in front of the Agricultural Academy in Cracow, or on the tombstone of Lidia Zamkow at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Cracow.
Bronislaw Chromy (1925 - 2017) - sculptor, medalist, painter, draughtsman, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.
After graduating from the High School of Fine Arts, he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. A student of Xawery Dunikowski.
Bronislaw Chromy's works feature historical and martyrological, musical, cosmopolitan and animalistic themes. The artist is the author of many sculptures that have become a permanent part of Krakow's urban space, such as the sculpture of the Wawel Dragon from the Vistula River (1969), the Owls of Krakow's Planty, and the Fountain of the Players on Wolnica Square.
