The painting "Roses in a Vase" was created around 1908 and its style belongs to the white period of Wojciech Weiss's work. This unique way of painting persisted from 1905-1912 and has been the subject of analysis by numerous art historians. The artist's monographer, Lukasz Kossowski wrote the following about the phenomenon of this painting: "The paintings of the white period, painted with a thin layer of paint have a delicate texture. They are painted <dry> , with minimal medium, often with unfilled areas of the sub-painting and gray-white ground left unfilled. They are sketchy in their overall expression, understated, as if the brush was treated like a pastel and the artist anticipated a dulling of the paint tone."
In 2007, a series of exhibitions devoted to paintings from this time began under the telling title "Beauty came to me.... Painting of the White Period in the Work of Wojciech Weiss," accompanied by an album catalog.
Paintings from this period are rare on the antiquarian market, showing a different face of Weiss - a classic of Polish art.
